Today marks 13 years of being a U2 fan. That's half my life! This month also marks 3 years of living with Ernie...which means our house is 3 years old as well, since he closed on it right before I moved in with him. I have good timing.

I was driving to work this morning, and a red truck pulled out in front of me from a driveway. The roads were kind of slick from the snow last night, and I'd been going slower than usual (I'd left early to allow extra time), but there was just no way I could stop because she had pulled out so close to me. My options were to smash into the back of the truck or crank the wheel and go into the snowy ditch and hope for the best. I opted for the ditch.

First, I just wanted to say thank you so much to everybody who had kind words in my last journal entry. As I mentioned, I have not had contact with my uncle since I was a kid, so it's not as though I am going to miss a presence in my life now or anything, but I am thinking about him a lot. The whole thing is just very sad, and it's cliche to say it, but it truly makes you think about what is important in life.

My Uncle Charlie died today. I haven't seen him since I was a kid, as he and my aunt divorced, but it is still very weird and sad. He was operating an excavator at work that fell through the ice. My sister and my mom called me earlier today, and I've been following the news through articles online, hitting refresh so I can get updates. Ernie was sick a lot this past week. I had been planning to visit my parents for this weekend, since I have Monday off from work, but I felt bad leaving Ernie. The weather forecast had been looking iffy too, so I'd been debating all week whether or not to go. Ernie finally told me that I "had" to go...because he was bringing home my birthday present on Sunday, so I couldn't be there. Seeing as how my birthday isn't until March 9th, and Ernie isn't usually prepared that far...

I forgot how quickly Valentine's Day was approaching. I'm sending out a few cards, and I'm kicking myself for not sending them on Friday. I think they will still arrive in time, but I hate waiting until last minute for stuff like this.

I'm not good with the phone anymore. Besides my parents, I don't call people that much. I feel like I am very boring and don't have much to talk about anymore. I used to be absolutely ridiculous with the phone, gabbing with friends every night, usually very late. My record is when Ben and I talked to each other from 10 at night until 6 in the morning. What can two people talk about for 8 hours? I remember talking about mix tapes and exes, but I don't know if that can fill 8 hours...can it?...

I don't talk about my feelings much anymore, if they aren't happy ones. I feel like I'm not allowed to be sad. It reflects poorly on me, and people either think I'm an attention seeker or they worry about me. Or both. People look down at me when I start sounding sad, they get nasty. I feel like I hold back a lot now because I'm worried that I'm going to be analyzed too much, and I don't know why, because it's not like there are people out there dissecting my every word and putting deep thought...

Last night, I had a dream where I was sitting in this house by myself. I looked up, and I saw Whiskers, my cat who died back in May. In dreams, logic escapes you, so it made perfect sense to me that Whiskers was there.

Whiskers came over to me and jumped on my lap, purring and giving me kisses. I petted her and then got up and walked around the house while holding her. The house was full of character and huge, it was endless. Eventually, of course, I woke up...and realized it...

We've had lots of frogs in our culvert again lately, which I love. Ernie and I were getting ready to leave for a weekend of camping on Friday, and there were six frogs in the culvert! They're so cute.

I had to go to Petsmart before we left to get some dog food, and I had to look at all the animals, of course. They had this awesome kitten that looked like a baby Whiskers. It made me cry. I pretty much always cry when I look at the cats though. I'm such a sap, I should just...

3 years ago today, I met Ernie for the first time. It was my first day at a new job. I was on crutches from a car accident two days earlier, which happened on a trip I was taking to celebrate my new job. Instead of going around to say meet everyone, people were told that they should come say hi to me, so I wouldn't have to hobble everywhere on my crutches. Not everybody took the time to do that, but he did. He literally had me at hello.
