Shameless self promotion

Posted 01-11-2007 at 12:58 AM by AvsGirl41
Loyal journal readers, please check out Film Ick which I am now an official contributor of:

http://filmick.blogspot.com/

We're really trying to get readers so pass it around. I think you'll particularly enjoy some of my more savage pieces, such as the review for Zzyxzz or whatever the hell it was called.

And if you can pass it around to people might check it out and leave comments, we would feel very talented and important.

The ugly truth of being unattainable

Posted 01-07-2007 at 05:50 PM by AvsGirl41
Last night, I was talking to Robin, one of the AICN guys I met at BNAT. Anyway, it had come up once before that all the other UK guys had been quite keen to know what I was like in person.

I pressed him for exactly what they wanted to know and of course, what was it but "is she as pretty in person" and "did you sleep with her?"

Now, after we had returned to our respective homes, he had told me he considered me to be...

The last post of 2007

Posted 12-31-2006 at 02:20 AM by AvsGirl41
I have a Blogger blog now and may start posting more there than here. http://ringbright.blogspot.com/

I had a great Christmas and made off like a bandit, gift wise. After my Elph camera, I didn't expect or want much else, but I still got alot of good gifts and lots of surprises:

A bottle of Jo Malone's Nutmeg and Ginger (heaven!)
A copy of The Prestige
X2 on DVD
The Fountain soundtrack (I LOVE this--and it's the one thing I really wanted)

The Russian steppes formerly known as Colorado

Photos of the blizzard currently raging across Colorado. Snow day from work, hooray! But Sarah is currently still stranded and we haven't heard from her.

Bnat!

Posted 12-15-2006 at 03:58 PM by AvsGirl41
BNAT was the most grueling, painful experience I've ever had outside of a medical office. I don't think I could do it again, honestly!

Friday morning found me up at 3:30 am to get my make-up and everything on. They had promised me they would have a sign that said "Lady Sheridan" so I decided to dress the part. I actually found my dream hat the day before--a faux fur Doctor Zhivago hat. So I decided to pair that up with a pair of enormous Jackie O sunglasses,...

My Internet notoriety continues...

Posted 12-15-2006 at 02:06 AM by AvsGirl41
Harry Knowles of AICN knows who I am now.

Oh, I should say yes, I survived BNAT and will write an account sometime when I have finally caught up on sleep. Which may be never thanks to work and Christmas preparations!

But enjoy this for now...Harry decided to publish my on the fly review of a certain *enormous* movie that's due out in 2007...he titled it, not me!

CanMag promptly picked it up...

My parents are the coolest!!

Posted 12-03-2006 at 01:10 AM by AvsGirl41
I came home Friday, after another horrid day at work, to find a huge package on my dinner plate.

My parents had bought me an ELPH 600 to take with me to BNAT! They had it rushed here in time for the trip. I don't think I even thanked them enough.

I have Jacob to thank as well, since he was the one who's parents bought him one first--thus giving mine the idea.

It's so small and sleek, quite sexy. It's almost as small as my cell phone....

Happier updates

Posted 11-24-2006 at 01:14 AM by AvsGirl41
So that my life doesn't seem all doom and gloom...

I applied at Frontier Airlines--the application took the better part of a Saturday night. But I made my first resume! I have a *good* customer service resume and learn new software quickly so I should be ideal for a customer service position like that. I am desperate for something new. I really can't take Registrar anymore--I hate the students, my boss is a jackass and the admin assistants are lazy and spiteful. I like my fellow...

It's a question of trust...

Posted 11-24-2006 at 12:34 AM by AvsGirl41
How can you regain your trust in people?

Here's the story--one that has repeated itself a number of times in my life. I made (I thought) a good friend online. We exchanged HUGE e-mails back and forth, which eventually progressed to sending presents and postcards. We just really clicked. Neither of us was romantically interested in the other--in fact, he was quite adamant that I know he would never ever approach me in such a way. He insisted he wanted me to trust him and know that...

Friends and relationships

Posted 11-12-2006 at 05:01 PM by AvsGirl41
Sometimes I wonder if it is really possible to have friends when you are single and 20 something.

It seems to be a recurring pattern with me that I make friends, usually with a guy, and things are awesome. And then they find themselves a girlfriend and instantly, I am a second thought.

I really think when you are young and single that friends are really just a way to fill the time and keep you company between relationships. When people are seriously dating someone,...

Halloween photos

Posted 11-01-2006 at 05:40 PM by AvsGirl41
Some of you will have seen these already. I wore the same costume, but I had a new belt made and got some really kick-ass boots. The belt arrived *after* everything was over and the maker is giving me the silent treatment. He didn't deliver an Aeon Flux outfit in time for Sarah either and when it did come, it didn't even fit. So she wasted money on her coloring her hair and other costume props.

Halloween was really kind of a bust this year. I tagged along to two Goth clubs who...

Stress

Posted 10-23-2006 at 01:25 AM by AvsGirl41
This fall is proving incredibly stressful. Perhaps it's just because I'm so full of anxiety about school, or maybe it's just Halloween drama, but it is not going well. I can't decide whether to give up my honors thesis and be out the $400 for the class or to sludge through it. I can't motivate myself to work on it at all. And I fall further and further behind in math. And so I just freeze up in dull horror.

Halloween has run me ragged. I'm not even sure it will be fun anymore....

Strike out!

Posted 10-02-2006 at 02:27 PM by AvsGirl41
So I decided I would really try and go to that literary theme party tonight. It's been two months since I was out of the house to do anything but work, so I thought this was something I really should do. Paul wouldn't go (naturally--and that's a whole seperate rant) so I swallowed my pride and accepted a ride from my dad.

I had decided I would go as Beowulf, because I have alot of Viking pieces down in my costume boxes. I bought a fake shield and a beard at the costume store. Mom...

Vaguely insulting

Posted 09-30-2006 at 04:35 PM by AvsGirl41
Today I received an obnoxious private message from a girlfriend of an English poster on AICN--that online place that fills the gap of my social life. She saw a photo of me as Lara Croft and has decided to copy the costume, so that she can accompany her boyfriend to Halloween parties. All of the English Zoners (several of whom I consider to be real friends) will be at this party, so that all the photos and videos will feature her in her spiffy new costume. Plus, her boyfriend is going as Wolverine--the...

A Bug's Life: Steve the Katydid

Posted 09-30-2006 at 01:19 AM by AvsGirl41
We made a new friend this week. We discovered him hanging on our front step. It was quite chilly out and I think he sensed a heat source. When we opened the door, he took this as an invitation to come on in.

We knew it was too cold for him outside, so we decided to keep him. Upon Googling "leaf bugs" (since he looked like a giant leaf, what else would he be?) we...
