two great movies

Posted 04-28-2007 at 08:28 AM by shika
that I've seen lately:

1. Priceless - a French film that made me laugh and laugh. It was all the more worth seeing it, as it was the first foreign language film that Mr Shika braved to see, despite his consternation that he, and I quote, "would not pay money to read at a movie"! end quote. It ended up being his choice of movie (our local cinema is having a mini foreign-language-film-festival) and as a result he is now a confirmed francophile - at least as far as...

oh my goodness, where does the time go?

Posted 04-23-2007 at 04:38 AM by shika
I can't believe that I haven't entried since New Years! How terrible, and I've missed it so much as well. It's nice to be in journals again; hi to those that stop by

So I got married - guess that's a good place to start! Just gone a month now and blissfully, vomit-inducingly happy No one told me how great it was going to be and I won't bore you with my love-sick prose, but I do feel very, VERY lucky. We had a wonderful, truly beautiful day (and yes, we used the...

Happy New Year

Posted 12-30-2006 at 06:07 PM by shika
... and a bunch of good cheer, to everyone. Australia gets New Year first (well, after some Pacific nations, that is) so I should be snoozin' away when it comes round to some of you others.

May 2007 be all that we hope and dream it to be.

Christmas shopping:

Posted 12-19-2006 at 02:10 AM by shika
I'm over it. Big time Make it go away.

And so it's forecast to maybe SNOW (on the peaks) in Hobart on Christmas Day. What's the big deal? It's freakin' SUMMER in my country!!

Oh well, the b/f is very excited by the prospect of a potential "white" Christmas. I'm personally very excited by the prospect of the tour we have planned to do of the Cadbury's (chocolate) factory, which I haven't done since I was 10 years old. I have awesome...

Stress is:

Posted 11-27-2006 at 05:28 AM by shika
* having to write 28 Year 6 reports by the end of the week - or sooner
* preparing 3 x Year 6 classes for their end-of-year performance/graduation ceremony. (Each class is doing a play and they really are ... terrible! Poor things, they are loving the rehearsals and all, but the shows are going to make the parents cringe - embarrassing for me, also!)
* losing out on a townhouse we really loved and planned to buy, but were short on our deposit - grrr - I HATE MORTGAGE...

A bit of perspective...

Posted 11-17-2006 at 02:56 AM by shika
... is good once in a while.

I've been raving on about my U2 shows, been totally ensconsed in my own little world and thinking that nothing can touch me. I've had the privilege of going to shows with my dearest friends and have been especially looking forward to going to two more this weekend in Melbourne - the culmination of a whirlwind two weeks of U2 in Australia - with my three best friends (and bridesmaids.) One of those dear friends has had a very ill father for some time...

U2 Sydney gigs

Posted 11-14-2006 at 02:45 AM by shika
So Sydney is over and Melbourne awaits.... I'm several hours (days?) behind on my sleep but I just can't get enough of that lovey dovey stuff...

Bono has been sampling/including a lot of Beatles' tracks, including Blackbird, All You Need Is Love and tonight he sang part of Michelle!!!! (my name, dummy!) :Swoon, swoon, swoon, Bono said my name etc:

... Three awesome shows. Sydney III was something else altogether. Bono was enough to make the...

Sydney gigs I, II & III... (GA is killing me!)

Posted 11-12-2006 at 03:50 PM by shika
Well this really is the week of a lifetime: I have my 3rd Sydney show tonight and as much as I love going to see U2, I am secretly looking forward to getting my life back and reaquainting myself with my matress for a serious amount of time!

It was horrendously hot in the GA line on Saturday - 28*C at least - and much hotter sitting on concrete all day. But it all was worth it, as I was fortunate enough to get a prime position on Edge's B-stage Some of my photos are mind-blowing....

Brisbane gig 7.11.06

Posted 11-08-2006 at 12:03 AM by shika
Well, where to start?! I was so nervous and excited at the thought of seeing them live again - I can't believe it's been 8 years since I saw them. I haven't really eaten for the past few days and it was a bit of mad dash getting to the airport in time to fly to Brisbane.

Mind you, for awhile I thought that I'd miss the start of the show, as the organisation at Brisbane's stadium was appalling. There was only one gate for all the GA and they had...

Just two days to go....

Posted 11-05-2006 at 01:48 AM by shika
... and the air seems to be getting thinner, because it sure is hard to breathe. Can't believe that I haven't seen U2 since '97 and NOT ONCE in my own country. Tuesday can't come soon enough...

Feeling sick with nerves, excitement, apprehension.

I'm going to opening night!!!

Posted 11-04-2006 at 12:10 AM by shika
I was originally going to wait til they got to Sydney, but the thought of being just one hour's flight away is TOO MUCH and so I have gone a bit beserk and booked a flight to Brisbane at 4pm on Tuesday and will come back on the 6am flight and go straight to work... I got a reasonably priced ticket on ebay and I just HAVE to be there.

But the thought of seeing U2 in just THREE DAYS has me in a bit of a tail spin, as i was emotionally psych-ing up to see them next...

yikes, it's been WEEKS...

Posted 10-18-2006 at 06:01 AM by shika
... since I've been on i/f, been busy, busy, busy.

School hols just finished and I had a great escape with the Mr-Shika-to-be. We took off down the south coast and had a very relaxing time, among other things: watching many a whale on their slow sojourn down to Antarctica for the summer. You could actually see them from the beach, it was truly magical.

We also visited an oyster farm which is pretty close to my idea of heaven. I never knew those...

 the insensitivity of some people amazes me...

Posted 09-28-2006 at 05:44 AM by shika
... I witnessed an elderly woman being hit by a car today. It was simply horrendous. Fortunately, the (elderly) guy driving the car was only going about 20km/h, so she was really just knocked to the ground and it wasn't too serious. Still, it's awful to see the fragility of life up close like that. Both my grandmothers are still allive and I was thinking it could so easily have been them, so I didn't think twice about kneeling by this woman and talking to her until the ambo arrived. And the...

hottie Hugh Jackman - yessirreebob

Posted 09-26-2006 at 04:06 AM by shika
Well I went to see the Boy From Oz on the weekend - the stage show of Peter Allen's life, starring "our" Hugh Jackman Talk about on stage. The man, simply, is a god. He even came out at one stage in a Swans jersey, which sent everyone crazy. [GO SWANS!]

It was an extra special show for me, as the boy playing the part of young-Peter-Allen goes to my school - he's a student in the classroom next door to me - and it was quite emotional...
