A Weekend With My Parents

Posted 01-29-2007 at 09:14 AM by Bonochick
I got to my dad's place a little before noon on Saturday...and nobody was home. Dad had to run out to work quick, and Mom went with him. They thought they'd beat me home, but they were obviously wrong.

Before I gave Mom her birthday present, she gave me some belated Christmas gifts. She had told me I was getting a present, but I didn't expect all she gave me. Everything was in a memory box that she had made for me out of a shoebox and various clippings that covered the box. She gave me some Lola cosmetics. One set is a kit with two mirrors, two blushes, 10 lip glosses, 5 eye shadows, mascara, eyeliner, lip liner, and applicators. The other is a clutch with 4 lip glosses and a lip pencil. I Lola stuff. She also got me a gift set of Jaqua shower syrups (4 different kinds). I also got a pair of amazing Swarovski earrings...they are absolutely gorgeous. She also gave me two Mitch Albom books (For One More Day & The Five People You Meet In Heaven), a Yankee Candle votive, a vanilla candle in a tin, a couple of lip glosses from Bath & Body Works, and...*drumroll*...a Bulova watch. It is so cool...by far the nicest watch I've ever had!! I felt kind of embarrassed to give her gifts to her after all I had just received. I got her a tart burner with birds on it. She said they reminded her of the birds back home in the U.P., which was what I had thought of as well. I also gave her a little Beanie Baby bear and a book about how much my mom means to me.

We had a lot of fun together. We drove through Frankenmuth to check out some of the ice sculptures. I got a Happy Meal from McDonald's, and the toy that came with it makes farting sounds. What the crap? Guess what I was playing with all weekend...

Mom brought Ice Age: The Meltdown and Cars, so we watched both of those. I loved the first Ice Age, and this one was good too. I Scrat!!! I actually never really had an interest in watching Cars, but it was so good. I want to see it again. Mater! Dad had taped My Name Is Earl and the three episodes of The Office from Thursday night, so we watched all of those as well. He'd also taped the previous weekend's episode of The Apprentice, so we watched that as well.

Yes, we like TV.

I took a picture of Mom off of Dad's digital camera and told her I would make her pretty. I tinted her hair green and added horrible makeup.

Mom brushed my hair a lot, put lotion on my hands while we watched TV, and painted my nails. She won a Barbie on eBay for me. She kept crying a lot, and I always had to bite my tongue. She's sad that she left us...sad that she screwed everything up. I don't say anything because I don't generally believe in kicking people when they're down, especially my own mother, but this is all her fault!! And all she has to do is come back home to make things better again. She's the only one stopping herself. It's frustrating.

Before I left on Sunday, Dad topped off the washer fluid in my car, cleaned the windows, and gave me gas money.

I cried after I left. I realized how much I miss my mom and that it could be many months before I even see her again. It's not supposed to be like that.
