I'm An Awful Girlfriend

Yesterday was Valentine's Day, obviously. Ernie has told me time and time again how much he hates the stupid Hallmark holiday and refuses to celebrate it. I decided to just go along with it this year and pretty much ignore the day, except for a mention on the note I put in his lunchbox (he gets a note everyday, so the note was nothing special).
Ernie always calls me when he's leaving work so that I know when to start dinner. Last night, he didn't call until 7:30. I'd already been home from work for a couple hours and was starving, so I was pretty peeved at him for being so late. I realize it's not like he enjoys working late, so I try not to get crabby usually, but I was annoyed by it last night. When he got home, he was asking me how I was and how work was, all that stuff. I gave him one word responses while I stayed focused on the stove. He came over for a kiss, and I just gave him a quick one and got back to cooking. When I turned around, I saw the following sitting on the dining room table: a Barbie doll, a set of 4 Barbie outfits, a Barbie Dream Puppy House, and a Barbie Dream Kitty Condo.
Needless to say, I felt pretty horrible.
Here I was mad because he was late, and it was because he was shopping for me...AND I had no gift for him on top of it. I had picked him up some deodorant while running errands on my lunch hour, so, um...that's what he got for Valentine's Day. Deodorant.
I'm such a romantic.
I love my presents though.
