Poor Herman...Again...

I got home today and discovered that Herman didn't just have a fin stuck the filter again...he was wrapped around the filter intake tube, his side completely stuck to it.
Once again, I thought he was for sure dead...but I still rushed to unplug the filter. Once again, he swam off like everything was normal, playing it cool. Relieved, I plugged the filter back in...and watched Herman immediately swim back over and get stuck in the same position.
Oh, Herman.

I took out the intake tube to rinse it and wipe it off well, and I cleaned all of the algae off the tank in that area. I'm hoping if I keep the algae gone from there that he'll stay away.
I'm worried though...his fins got pretty shredded up. Suddenly, that hole he had in his fin doesn't seem that major.

Yeah I agree about the algae wafers.
This reminds me of what happened to my poor pleco when I had a 5gallon tank.
I came home and I couldnt find him at all in the tank. I was like wth?? Finally I saw that he was stuck to the underneath almost inside of the filter! I lifted the filter out of the water and kind of shook it expecting him to drop back down into the tank but he didnt move at all and he almost seemed 'crusty' or something :( I thought for sure he was dead. So I took him into the bathroom and was going to flush him (this was years ago when I didnt know what to do with fish when they died. Now I would probably give them a proper burial). So anyway I took a spoon and scooped him out of the filter into the toilet and he SWAM. AWAY. :| I was like NO WAY!!! He lived in my freaking toilet for like a week. I couldnt get him out. I tried every single day but he would just swim deeper into the toilet when I tried to get him. It was horrible and I bet you remember this BC because I had a thread in IO about it. FINALLY Jim said screw this I'm getting this fish out. And he did, and we put him back in the tank and he died a couple days later :( I cant believe he lived in the freaking toilet for a week but then died in the tank shortly after.
Fish keeping is NOT easy.. I have a hard enough time keeping my 2 little bettas happy. That is the most fish I will get!Posted 04-18-2007 at 11:13 AM by Sicy
