A Day Frozen In Time

Within a matter of hours life can change as you know it
We discovered this quickly on a bright sunshine morning
The sky was blue and clear
What lurked behind the clouds and what was to come was unknown
As everyone became frozen in time our prestige was stolen
Our hearts broken and the safety of our country robbed
Now we are left to pick up the pieces
To grieve in our shock as our tears refuse to stop
All the while anger builds as we ask that one all important question "Why?"
Seeking out those who invaded our lives for punishment
They so rightly deserve
As memories of loved ones that were someone's friend, family and most of all our fellow "neighbors" linger deep within our minds
As we pause to say thank you to the heroes that continue to risk their lives
Though we may never have met we were united by one simple thing
We all lived in this country and took pride in what we stood for
And it is together that we shall rise once again
The pain will eventually subside but memories will live forever
As history repeats itself one day will remain clear and bright
This is September 11, 2001 when a day was forever frozen in time
I wrote this poem about a day or two after the WTC attacks. After watching continuing coverage of the 5th anniversary I have decided to share this with all.
