I just received a call from a really good friend of mine that my aunt Thelma passed away this morning. This was my one of myd dad's older sisters. She has been battling cancer for some time now. Since Thelma was a member of the same church that Aric and his family attended they knew my aunt. Aric's mom happened to be in the church office when the call came in. Naturally she called Aric assuming that I had already called and told him the news. Well I would have if someone had bothered to call and tell my family! Guess because my dad is no longer here that we weren't worthy of knowing about our aunt's passing. Im pretty fucking pissed off!!!! How would they have liked hearing from a non family member that their brother had died?
WTF is it with people?! Common decency obiviously doesn't play a role with this side of the family. Right now I am seriously considering removing them from my wedding guest list. Thought I would be nice and invite them since I am being married on my father's birthday. If this is how my family is going to be treated then screw them!

I'm assuming this incident is part of a pattern of slights and negative treatment of you from these people, and if so I say ditch 'em.
But if this is the only example of this type of thing then I think you are overreacting. I know after my dad's and my mom's deaths I didn't get on the phone right away and call everyone, and when I did start to call some friends got called before certain family members. I'm sure some family members learned from friends and not family of their deaths. If they were pissed about that, well, too fucking bad. I just don't see it as a particularly big deal -- you found out within hours of your aunt's death. That seems pretty good to me. :shrug:Posted 03-04-2008 at 08:05 PM by indra

It has been an ongoing battle with my father's side of the family for years. The vast majority of the time they acted as though my mom and her children didn't exist. They were never happy about my parent's getting married and never tried to hide their displeasure. Today was a prime example of just severing the ties completely.Posted 03-04-2008 at 10:33 PM by BonosBaby12
