How do you screw over your own kid?

Apparently my father has no problem doing so.
For health insurance, right now I’m on MassHealth, which is a bare minimum insurance. It covers my doctors visits and some prescriptions but not much else. To try and get a better control of my diabetes, I want to go on the insulin pump. Unfortunately, it’s $5000-7000 minimum without decent insurance covering it. My father, who covers my insurance, knows this. He told me his new insurance plan at work would kick in last week.
When I call him to inquire about the insurance, he doesn’t return my calls. Then he gives my brother this bullshit story about how he got fired over owing child support to my mother and then blamed her for the problems. This story didn’t sit right with my mother and I. Saturday night she called up his work to ask if he was in that night. They told her no, but he’d be in the next night. Sounds pretty low of him right? Wait, it gets even better. Yesterday she called up HR and found out he opted not to get the insurance.
He concocted this whole lie to cover up the fact he’s too cheap. I ask him for nothing. And the one time I need something from him he screws me over big time. I’m so hurt right now I can’t even begin to describe it. For all of his faults, I never thought he’d do something like this.

I always had trouble getting insurance coverage from my dad, so eventually I signed up with the plan my school offered. Are you in school? If so, see what they offer students. Our plans weren't all that great, but then you can use the health services on-campus, and they can't reject you b/c of your diabetes.
I'm sorry you have to deal with this. You shouldn't have to be cleaning up this mistake on top of keeping your diabetes under control. Thinking about health care in this country makes me want to drive into a brick wall...Posted 12-05-2006 at 12:14 PM by Liesje

Is there any way you're mother can get a judgement to require you father to get coverage for you? It was a long time ago, but I do think that was something that was written into the settlement when my parents were divorced. Of course, it could cost as much or more in fees and such for her to attempt that as the insulin pump would cost. :(Posted 12-05-2006 at 02:17 PM by indra
