Another 2008 Accomplishment

In February, I rode in my first organized bike ride. I rode 10 miles in the Palm Springs heat for their Homeless Services.
In June, I rode for Diabetes and did 16 miles.
Today, I walked my first 5K. 3.1 miles for Diabetes. In one day, I raised almost $200 asking co-workers and friends for whatever change they had.
It was the longest
walk of my life. When I saw the 1 mile marker, I thought this isn't so bad. When I got to 2 miles, I needed water and a banana. And then the walk got really long. My knees started to ache, the sun was beating down on me and I never saw the 3 mile marker. And, I personally felt that the last mile was WAY longer than 5280 feet.
One of the vendors gave us pedometers and when I finished, mine said 10407 steps.
I am sure I took more steps than that today.
I am not sure I will ever do another one. At least I can say I have one under my belt, but biking seems to be my thing.
I am training now to do the 25 mile ride in Palm Springs next February.

Can I just say, that you did a beautiful thing.
Right now you are thinking about yourself... as an afterthought.
But I know that each step you took, was for someone else, and that...
is just too kind for words.
You are a hero to people you don't even know.
And you should feel like Super-person.
Your discomfort will pass, but your sacrafice and kindness
will never be forgotten.
