Happy Rex Manning Day

I adore the movie "Empire Records," it's a great one to pop in when I'm sick or down or bored because it totally picks me up. It's about a record store, the kids who work there and the one day that changes their lives forever, but in a totally quirky, slightly indie, '90s kind of way.

A portion of the movie is dedicated to Rex Manning, a former teen idol turned bitter pop singer who's coming to the store for a signing. There are varied levels of excitement among the store employees about the guy and his music, but "Rex Manning Day" is kind of a big deal.
I've adopted Rex Manning Day as my own personal all-purpose holiday and declare one whenever I feel like it, mostly when I notice myself and my friends caught up in a funk that desperately needs to be broken. After doing a web search this morning, I found that I'm not the only one who declares Rex Manning Days.
Last night, as I was leaving work at 8:30, I realized I was in one of those funks and decided that today would be a Rex Manning Day.
There are no rules or traditions I follow on Rex Manning Day. For me, it's about shaking off the negative and just finding a reason to be excited. On Rex Manning Day, nothing's going to get me down because I won't let it, not the missed deadline or aggravating coworkers or traffic or the super-cute dress I bought for No Doubt that probably won't fit this weekend. As Marc said in the movie, "We mustn't dwell, not today; we can't, not on Rex Manning Day!"
Here's the glorious video from Rex Manning's smash hit "Say No More, Mon Amour." Enjoy! Happy Rex Manning Day!
