Crappy Mechanics vs. Truthful Mechanics

To any of you TRUTHFUL mechanics that either work as a mechanic for a job or those that do this as a past time---THANK YOU for being honest with people.
This is insane what I've gone through. It's been one big roller coaster of lies and thieve-ory....I seriously don't know what I would have done had I not found someone honest.
My car breaks down on Friday at 2:30. Bright sunny day. I get it pushed around the corner as I was in traffic, call a cop since I'm still sticking out in traffic, and call a service station my families gone to for years to have it towed. This service station is notorious for ripping it's customers off.
So within an hour I get a call that my timing chain is broken and my engine is destroyed. I have a 2002 pontiac sunfire, with a non interference 2.2 Echotech engine.
My husband goes to talk to the mechanic, who's 18-20 if that. Saturday morning my husband calls the Pontiac dealer's mechanic. They say absolutely not, there's no reason this engine needs to be replaced, and certainly not for $6400 for a re-built engine.
I go there last night to pay the tow bill and the "diagnosis bill". I'm told they won't just change the timing chain, "even though there really isnt anything wrong with the engine, it's a pre-cautionary measure and therefore we can't fix just what's broken as we can't stand behind it".
Ok fine. I go in the car to get something out of the backseat. The light doesnt come on. Um....the battery is suddenly dead.
I went
psycho on them. Seriously, I read them the riot act.
This morning I'm told, "The battery was dead when it got to us, therefore not our problem and we won't replace it. You can buy a new battery from us for $200, but theres no way you're getting something from us for free".
 I'm pissed.
Call Brian(husband). He gets pissed. Calls the mechanic that towed the truck, he tells Brian, "Oh no, I know her battery was fine when I picked the car up, her hazard lights worked, her day lights worked, the radio went on, dash lights worked, and the gas gauge went up to where the gas was. I saw the other mechanic turn her headlights on, so she was right. It was our fault, not hers. The battery should be replaced. I'd advise you to get in touch with the police officer that was on the scene as she asked your wife to turn the key to see the gas gauge go up and she made a comment about how the lights on the dash were working too."
So that's what I've done. I've contacted the police officer. I've gotten the car towed to another service station. And I'm telling the original service station where they can stick their thumbs!

besides that, Brian's taking it up with the owner tomorrow about the battery. Oh what a fight that will be!!!!!!!!!!
