It's all happening

Hi.
Will do my best to keep this brief.
Today was my last day of work at my old network. After 9.5 years.
My department made a collage for me, each department member added photos of themselves, photos of Chicago or stuff from the past, and wrote haikus, because they know haiku cracks me up. It was a great gift, something to remember them by, and it was hard to not cry, as I might seem to be nothing but a wiseass on this site, but, I'm a pretty emotional guy.
Then, tonight, was my goodbye party and I have to say that more people attended than I would have thought. Again, a very emotional night. A happy night, too, though, as I did have a good time despite hating when attention is focused on me.
Anyway, it's been a whirlwind since I accepted my new position, and now, I start there in a week.....but not before a weekend road trip to Vegas, with a good friend in the car, to celebrate a close friend's 30th b-day, and, a chance to say goodbye to some other friends. Then, fly to Chicago on Monday, take Tuesday and Wednesday to tour temp housing, and to take a deep breath before starting the job.
Wow. I am leaving a decade's worth of memories, friends, laughs, disappointment, traffic, sunshine, heartbreak, ocean views, In N Out, Dodger games, road trips to Santa Barbara or the aforementioned Vegas behind.
It's all so exciting and yet so sad at the same time. But, I'm happy to have been lucky enough to experience life out here, and to have made so many amazing friends along the way. Also lucky to be at my new job, which will be an adventure in itself.
Anyway, just wanted to write a little about tonight and how I'm feeling. I'm smiling in a lot of ways at once.

That's really cool that they did all that for you. It shows that you'll be missed. And of course it would be emotional. 10 years? You'd be a stone to not show emotion in a situation like this.
But on the flip side, I do know how excited you are with this new position! So Congrats on that again!
I did however want to mention that though you're leaving the memories of traffc, I think you'll find some traffic in Chitown if you look hard enough. :wink:Posted 04-27-2007 at 08:57 AM by Got Philk?

i've never been able to hold a job for more than 1 year. even when i do leave those, i have these mixed emotions: sad to leave friends, happy to start in a new direction. so i couldn't imagine how those must be magnified for you.
but still, what a wonderful way to say goodbye. you're still working for the same company, right? perhaps during a business trip, some of your old co-workers could meet up with you.
i'll give you a holla next time i'm in gary.Posted 04-27-2007 at 03:14 PM by unico

Congratulations and best of luck. Or should I say Mazel Tov? 10 years at one place - wow! Lots of memories, and as Phil said, how could you not be emotional.
Let us S.Cal-ers know when you come back for a visit so we can arrange a gathering. Hope you don't miss the sun too much. Or the ocean. Or In N' Out
