isn't it funny (haha) how you can speak the same language as someone, yet not understand a word they say?

That started yesterday here. I cannot believe I forget you're a day behind. Actually, I can believe it.

I'm fasting this year.... I think. I purposely took tomorrow off of work so I wouldn't eat. I'm a chef so fasting would be almost impossible to do if I worked.

I made it 21 hours without food. Water is another story. This afternoon was tough but for the most part it wasn't too hard. I'm stuffed now

I made it 23.5 hours, no food, no water. As usual, glad that I did it...

Is water really supposed to be avoided, too? Even Muslims I know who are (I thought) stricter with their fasts allow themselves even some fruit juice.

^ Hmm, they don't all allow that, in fact my impression is most of the Muslims I know don't. They fast for longer periods--a whole month for Ramadan, though that's "only" during daylight hours whereas Yom Kippur runs from sundown to sundown--so maybe in certain sects or areas some Muslims have the custom of permitting a little liquid relief. There's one other Jewish holiday with a sundown to sundown fast and four with a sunrise to sunset fast.

Children (under bar/bat mitzvah age), the elderly, pregnant and nursing women, and people under doctor's orders not to fast aren't expected to, though. Sometimes children who are 9-ish on up will do a minor fast, where they delay their meals a few hours and consume nothing between meals--our oldest son did this for the first time this year.

Yes a drink is definitely the first thing you'll be pining for by the time Yom Kippur services end!
