last weekend alone i found out:
1) my cousin, who has skin cancer, got locked up, and will be spending his final years in jail and not with his family (his fault, i know, but damn that is sad)
2) my boss' boss, the head of our dept, has very bad throat cancer. she can no longer work full days and has already cleared out her office. the docs are less than hopeful.

and i know some of my friends are going through similar things. cancer is a bitch.

Im so sorry Mia that's quite a bit to find out in one weekend    Really is incredibly sad too about your cousin :(
The other day I found out that 2 of my friends just had close relatives diagnosed with cancer. On top of that I have an aunt dying from this disease. To me this has got to be one of the most absolute horrible diseases ever!Posted 03-13-2007 at 02:44 PM by BonosBaby12

thanks Shannon! it sure is horrible.
U2Man, he is in his 20s. I thought he was getting treatment for it. But my uncle sent an e-mail over the family listserv saying that "he will be spending his final years and jail and without his family" bit...so...I really don't know for sure. He could've been overreacting, but from what I understand from others was that it was pretty bad and my cousin really was trying to keep it on the dl.
I saw Ms. Nicki (the dept head) today. She isn't allowed to talk. She looked like she just had this sort of acceptance. She talked anyway, and said "there's really nothing I can do now. What's done is done. I'd rather talk to you while I still can than not." Ouch. My boss said that next week Ms. Nicki will have to use a feeding tube. :(Posted 03-13-2007 at 06:09 PM by redhotswami

I'm sorry to hear that.
My uncle (Dad's brother) found out in January he had skin cancer. The surgeons noticed marks on his face on neck when he needed an emergency operation for something else. The same week we heard my favourite auntie (on my Mum's side) had terminal ovarian cancer. It runs in the family but it was still a huge shock to hear, you never think your own aunts will get it.
Her and my Mum hadn't spoken for a while but they got in touch and she just had a big operation and is now getting treatment until June. Thankfully they are able to start treating it and it's not as grim as we thought to begin with (that she only had a month or so to live) and, touch wood, she can beat this.
My uncle is waiting to have two big operations but they seem confident about his treatment for his skin cancer and are going to tackle it as quickly as possible, hope they can do the same for your cousin.
Sending you lots of :hug:Posted 03-14-2007 at 05:12 PM by Laura M
