I'm incapable of being regular at the gym!

It's a cycle! I get all excited from something like... for example, the super athletic people at Beijing 2008 and then go and workout regularly for about a week. Then something comes up and I can't go that following monday. Tuesday, say, I'm too tired cos I didn't get enough sleep the previous night and that's it. I end up not working out that whole week! If I get off to a bad start, it's damn near impossible for me to get the motivation to do it towards the end of the week. Then again the following week I'll feel all energetic and go workout for a couple more days and later again lose interest.
Plus there's distractions galore... Interference, itunes, msn...
I really do want to be regular at the gym but half the time find it hard to get motivated.
It's probably the instant gratification mentality. I don't see any results yet... does this even work?? ah, fuck it!

Yeah I realize things take time. But I need something to motivate me to go workout. Otherwise it just becomes a routine chore... like work. But at least with work you have instant gratification in the form of salary, lol.
Actually, I was pretty regular for my spinning class twice a week.. cos it was a lot of fun! But now I'm doing the evening shift at work for a month so consequently have to miss spinning. I can still workout in the mornings but it will be by myself. Classes are so much more fun! Oh well.Posted 10-02-2008 at 08:50 PM by Zoots

Make sure the workouts are hard enough to be effective and you will see results that will keep you going.
Go before or directly after work, have your gym bag ready the night before and don't think about it; make it automatic like brushing your teeth- you don't think of that as optional do you?
When I need a new habit I do something every day for 10 days, then you can lighten up to 5 but you'll find you miss going on your days off.Posted 10-03-2008 at 05:21 PM by redkat
