AB for me. For some reason I've just never liked the second half of JT after Red Hill Mining Town.

AB was and will likely still be my all time favorite album (of any bands)....but if for years, I liked JT a lot....I have now grown to love it a lot...just not enough to beat AB though!

AB is more experimental, wich is why most of the pop kids don't like it. Just listen what Bono says in this interview:

With JT they where the people's band, specially in America. With the AB they where more the band against the (pop)people. LIB, Acrobat, UTEOTW, ZS, TTTYAATW wouldnt been any sucess as singels. Most of the songs on JT would.

I think The Joshua Tree's a better album from a cultural standpoint, but Achtung Baby's my personal favorite. It's neck-and-neck though on any given day, just depends what mood I'm in.

Maybe I'm missing something here...but where in those quotes does Peter say AB is better than JT "because the latter is more liked"?

Much as I love Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby wins hands down. Maybe it's the fact that it's more European, I don't know. I think it is absolutely perfect.
