Bono and K'naan talk famine - Anderson Cooper 360 interview

My daughter's boyfriend watched the interview with me. He doesn't know who Bono is (we make fun of him all the time because of that). He was amazed at the passion and anger Bono showed. He was brought to tears with the story and so impressed to see someone with Bono's fame actually trying to use it for good.

Tonight's episode of Anderson Cooper 360 featured an interview with Bono and Somilian-born singer K'naan on the current famine in Somalia. The TV interview was only a few minutes, but the entire video (about 10 minutes) is online.

I haven't seen Bono this angry since Sunday Bloody Sunday in Rattle and Hum.

Bono and K'naan talk famine - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com

I watched this on TV as well - Bono was frustrated, and I somewhat agree that we should be paying more attention to this famine crisis in Africa nowadays (per his words).

This is a weird thing to notice, but it's really bugging me - it seems like the cameras for Bono and K'Naan is weirdly placed, because for much of the interview, it seemed like neither was looking directly into the camera.

/back to watching

He was looking directly into the camera for that last section ... I don't know if the crew had directed him to the wrong camera initially, or if that was a conscious choice, to save the impact for his ending passionate statements.

But since K'naan was having the same issue, I'd guess the former.

Wow, two hot guys and the 'wavin' flag' dude.

Ok, on to watching serious news now.

cori, I agree. Bono and knaan look like they're watching AC's on a video screen instead of looking into their cameras?
I think B was probably on vacation in Italy and stepped into a studio to do this correspondence with AC.

Ok, back to serious news again.

I was moved watching this, haven't seen Bono like this talking about Africa for quite some time. Maybe his experiences from Ethiopia came back to him. It certainly wasn't the same old things he's been saying on every occasion these last years.

Keep up the good work, Bono!

^honey, I was talking about continuing watching the video:huh:

Yeah, that was some powerful, angry stuff from Bono there. I agree with The_Edge, it's definitely not she same pre-One spiel he gives at every concert:applaud:

No offense taken. I just realized that Bono is such an amazing, multi-tasking human being. He's vacationing with his family right now (before the kids go back to school), taking the odd call from Paul McG and management about the AB remaster, keeping so up-to-date with global news and of course fighting to right it.

I love how he was so generous and gracious in thanking AC :)cute:) and knaan.

And it was just incredibly personal how he used his own 4 kids as an example, saying he'd rather have them alive than be in U2.

Did anyone watch the interview as it was on CNN? (I watched online.)

Was the lead story the stock markets or London riots? I couldn't help feel the irony as Bono griped about people being more interested in watching the riots or the markets than dying children.

He should be pointing that finger at the media, not the viewers. I'd bet any money Cooper's own show didn't lead with Somalia.

That's what I thought. I mean, AC360 is a bit different because he's actually IN Somalia this week, so it's being highlighted, but still.

Rail at the media, Bono. Not the viewers.

I totally don't understand that blurb. Why the BP oil reference? Are they implying that Bono showed up, did a dance and left?

Why would you think he wasn't there to actually discuss anything?

The lead story was about Somalia. Cooper was criticizing how the news is so big that is should be the main headline in every newspaper (kinda how Bono was). He did go on to briefly discuss the London riots about half way in, then he went back to Somalia and finally the Bono/K'naan interview.

Late night drink? They're in different continents!

Yeah, I'm glad AC didn't sue U2 for using the same title as his show... I jest, y'all:wink:

Anyone know if Bono has been on AC on any other past occasions?

Might be other times but I know of The Democratic National Convention in 2004.

Some good questions from Anderson Cooper. The difficulties with getting the help where it's needed is an issue that critics often demand an answer to but it's hard to find a 100% working solution on, Bono talking about the importance of safe passage for aid. It's sad that K'Naan has to give an response about the westerners trust issues when there's an emergency.
