When I first put AB in the tape player and the opening riff of Zoo Station kicked in I really thought that I had gotten the wrong tape. I thought I got jipped. But I would soon discover I was listening to the greatest album ever made

I am unsure about which part of your statement is cooler: the fact that your (presumably) first copy of Achtung Baby was a tape, which you surely had to rewind a number of times before you came to accept that it was actually Bono telling you that he was "ready", or that you use the word "jipped".

I wonder if that feeling would be rediscovered when the new album is released.

I am going to use the word "jipped" as many times as possible today!:applaud::wink:

And while we're paying attention, waiting for this album to someday surface, its the perfect time to throw remasters at us!

:hmm:By the time the new album comes out, it'll genuinely be about time to remaster HTDAAB...:D

If with "Us" you refer to people comparing musicloving people and skilled musicians to wild monkeys than I rather be "we".

*Band's opnion=irrelevant. You like what you make otherwise you wouldnt be making it.
*producer's opinion = irrelevant. Like Brian(God bless him) Eno would say:"My God, the last record I recorded with U2 sucks BIG time!"
*grammies = irrelevant. Multiply that 3 billion time and you have my opinion of the grammies
*Album sales= irrelevant. Atomic Kitten better than let's say: Tom Waits??

WE are better than the US anyway

This argument always amuses me because its always ends as being moot due to the fact that neither side can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that their point is anything but subjective.

Its similar to the arguments I was part of during art critiques in college. One artist would argue about their work; its relevance and significance...blah blah blah...another one would argue against it for whatever reason they wanted to hang their hat on that particular day, and the battle would range on for hours. Sometimes I think that they just loved to argue for the sake of arguing. In the end they were BOTH right and they were BOTH wrong.

Why?

Because the artists' intent and subsequent opinions of their work is just as relevant and significant as the viewer's reaction to it and his/her opinions. If it were a one way street then it wouldn't be "ART". It would be science or something.

Thats the ultimate problem with the music arguement that you guys are having....Its NOT a science. Its NOT quantifyable by numbers. Its not able to be proven through the Scientific Method or any other process that helps prove theories and make the law. So why do people argue about it in that way?

That being said,

NO...total album sales do not automatically equate to success or proclaim that said band is great and totally awesome. Neither do millions and millions of diehard fans, the adoration of music critics, or the opinions of a couple of producers that happen to work for the band.

But don't you think we should at least take that into consideration? I mean c'mon....50 million Elvis fans can't be wrong! :larry:

Or even NLOTH itself. :hmm: :D

Elvis was/is/will ever be the king.

Yes it is an amusing debat and both parties have something going for them.

I think I wrote something yesterday like: I remember writing a song which I absolutely adored. I thought/still think it was/is THAT good. the people who heared it preferred others over it and ranked it almost last. I still think it is one of the best things I have ever written. It is a strange thing to be the judge over your own material. Bigggest band in the world or not. On the opposite: The first book I wote. I just can not let it go because I am afraid it is not good enough and everybody says it is. Difficult times indeed
