Yeah, but since it was Hansen, there's a 99.9999999999999999% chance it was unintentional and he was trying to waste a pitch 3 feet outside.
So, yeah. |

Most likely, but on this staff you take what you can get. Pedro's not walking through that door. Hell, Bronson Arroyo isn't either...their only hope was Hansen getting wild or Youk letting the bat "oops" slip out of his hand a la Trot Nixon.

I was watching and did not think it was intentional.

Sox fans.....Varitek looks completely done at the plate.....he's still a great clubhouse presence I assume, and still decent behind the plate.....do you want him back, or, do you think it's time to thank him for a great run with the Sox and move on next season? Not a lot of great catching options out there, of course, and I've no clue if there's someone in Pawtucket waiting in the wings.....

I don't think it was intentional either. I also don't think Joba's was because at the time it would have been galactically stupid...but the fact that it was Youk again has to make you wonder.
I really like Manny Ramirez. Maybe I've just grown numb to it over the years, but most of the MBM stuff, the goofball stuff at least, just doesn't really bug me. I always kind of figured most of it was just his personality, and that if he was wound up tight like a Nomar or Trot he wouldn't be able to be the hitter he is from AB to AB. But this time around it seems to have a bit more edge to it. Plus it really stinks that every time a star leaves Boston it ends up ugly. I'm actually still surprised that the Sox/Pedro parting went as well as it did compared to others...and I'd hoped it wouldn't have to end that way with Manny. NSW the Tek thing is really tough. I'd love to have him back next year as part of a tandem where he's only catching 50% or so of the games while they work in a successsor. Problem is, you've got Wakefield there, and after the Bard disaster everyone is leery of having a young catcher work with Wake. I think they bring him back as long as he wants to stay (and take a decent sized paycut), but it's going to be a problem if they can't find a guy who's good enough to do more than catch Wake only. I actually like Cash as a catcher better than Doug Mirabelli, but he's not an everyday catcher IMO, and I don't think either of the PawSox C's are MLB catchers either. |

did espn put the third game in the over-hyped battle for second place on as the 8:00 sunday nighter tonight? nothing i love more than watching the world wide leader jizz themselves over an 8 hour 9 inning game that nobody other than yankee and red sox fans have given a crap about since october of 2004.

Given that this sort of crap with getting rid of Manny surfaced back in 2003, 2005 and 2006, I'll believe that the Red Sox plan to trade him when I see it.

Shane Victorino for Manny, huh? Lord knows the Red Sox don't have nearly enough fleet, light-hitting center fielders. How many additional bags of balls were the Phillies planning on throwing in?
Jayson Werth + prospies for Manny isn't much better either. |

Well the Phils would definitely have to sell the farm completely (Corrasco and Happ are pretty good pitching prospects, and they'd definitely be gone) as well as get rid of most likely Victorino (or Jenkins/Werth), so I'm not sure I like the trade. What they really need is another veteran reliever to calm the bullpen down (they're good, but they have their stretches where they play like everyone thought they would before the season), and another starter to fill the gaping black hole that is Brett Myers. The offense is really not the issue, certainly not enough to kill off what pitching future the team has to go for Manny Ramirez.
Also, Manny wouldn't last two weeks in Philly. New Englanders can tolerate that "Manny being Manny" bullshit, but in South Philadelphia there's no way that would ever fly. |

If I'm not mistaken, don't Manny's 2 option years autonatically kick in if he's traded per his contract?
I believe I remember hearing that last year...so if thats the case, a team wouyld not be renting him for just this season, but would have him for the next 2 as well...but at a cost of $20 mil per...I'll have to look around to see if that is the correct info. |

I don't recall, and am too lazy to look it up.
He's not going anywhere, anyway.

It's probably academic, 1 because I highly doubt he gets moved, and 2 because I'm sure he'd want a guarantee that the options aren't picked up to agree to a deal.
So, did the Sox offense get back on track or was it just Ponson? Ellsbury's 3 hits are encouraging anyway. Headache that game was actually <3 hours, shocking I know...unless you count the rain delay but that's just cheating. |

However, the Phils NEED pitching. This cannot be stressed enough. Myers needs to move to the 'pen for one last hurrah, and Happ needs to get more starts. He's done fine, certainly a better chance of success than Myers.
