I think it has a chance to enter the CHR Top 40 (AKA the ultimate chart) once it is officially released.
You are correct...I missed that on Radio and Records. But on Mediabase, which tracks EVERY station across the U.S. and many across Canada, I have been showing it's progress in Active Rock. And since this chart updates daily, showing the past 7 days real-time, it's worth mentioning again just how "hot" Magnificent has become w/respect to Airplay:

Active Rock:
Magnificent is 32 today...up from 42 just 7 days ago! It has an increase of 78 plays...and it's moving up this fast while only being played on 21 stations! Now, Hard rock doesn't exactly seem to fit U2...but the top songs on this format have between 60-80 stations playing them. If Magnificent gets to 40 stations, they could crack the Top 20 or better.

Rock
After losing steam and seemingly peaking at #10, now Magnificent has resumed an increase in plays and moves up to #8 versus #10 7 days ago.

Triple A
4th week at #1...but the gap between Magnificent and the nearest song that is increasing is well over 100 spins. Plus, the "drop" in plays for Magnificent has gone from -40 two days ago to -7 today.

Hot AC
Ironically, Magnificent is not charting as high on this chart as they are on R&R and Billboard, but I'm not sure the formats are quite the same...plus Mediabase measures more stations. Regardless, it's still at #28 but with big increases in airplay and within two plays of the song above it.

Alternative
Magnificent holds at #18 with -17 in plays over the last 7 days.

Billboard numbers next...

This could change though as I've heard Boots quite a bit this past week during the NBA Playoff highlights that they show during the game. They do it like a music video and tell you who the artist is etc. So the song may pick up in popularity because of this.

Magnificent itunes chart positions

Ireland: 72
UK: 58 (Rock songs), below 300 overall
US: Non-charting, Beautiful Day is on the top 100 rock songs and Magnificent is selling half what that is

They're starting to push for top 300 entry now, Naive is 298th overall, 48th on rock, Magnificent is 58th and sales differences are very small

That's because everyone gets the best music for free these days. It's probably the imaginary #1 single.

Then why don't people get the non-U2 songs for free too? This is a bad excuse for charting badly

Not necessarily....People were downloading the entire album for free the day it came out, before it came out....I am not sure people were doing the same for the FloRida's and T-Pain's and Miley stuff. Those people download single songs because those artists are not known for their albums. I am sure a great deal of people already have Magnificent for free without having to download the single. That's where I'm coming from. U2 are an album band, not singles band. And many people got their album for free. Because of the amount of people who got it for free, there is no good way to measure any of their single's success.

No real surprises on Billboard (I'm beginning to prefer mediabase since it measures more stations, updates daily, and shows actual playlists for hundreds of stations)

Triple A
Magnificent stays at #2, again. We know from Mediabase that it's actually #1 in airplay.

Modern Rock
Magnificent down 2 to 20, but at least plays are again increasing

Mainstream Rock
Magnificent up two spots to #30...maybe this is similar to "Active Rock" from mediabase

Adult Top 40
Magnificent up 5 spots to 23...very promising

Canadian Hot 100
Magnificent up 3 spots to #70

I saw that on the Billboard's Modern Rock charts "Magnificent" dropped from 18 to 20 as you wrote above. That may seem discouraging, but as you wrote, plays increased (it's just that other songs received more plays). Plus, that chart has two modes - wildly stable or dramatic bounces. That is, a song will linger for weeks and weeks at a position or two and other times there'll be huge increases or decreases. Rare is the gradual rise. For example, Pearl Jam's song dropped from #5 to #15 in one week (and this was a former #1) on that chart.

All of that said, I see a bit of "Beautiful Day" in "Magnificent". BD was a hit on the chart, but I think it only reached #5. I think this is partly because the song wasn't seen as "alternative". "Magnificent" has a bit of that going for it too. Hence, I'm more interested in the A/C and Hot A/C charts because this is how "Beautiful Day" eventually broke through. Once it did well on the A/C charts, it was able to chart high in the Hot 100.

Yeah, see if it breaks through here, this is where the biggest hit singles live. The Adult Top 40 hits singles seem to have longevity on the charts.

On Billboard's Top 100 Eurochart Singles...
Boots actually rises from 94 to 87 in it's 9th week

On the BB European Airplay Chart...
Magnificent holds at #15 during it's 2nd week on this chart

What's more important than where it charts, is how long it charts for.

A songs success is a measure of where it charts, how long it charts for and total sales, in my opinion

Didn't Magnificent chart at 70-something for one week when the album was released?
