There's a list of worldwide sales for albums released in 2008 so far, the figure on the left is the minimum possible sales and the figure on the right is the maximum possible sales

Goes to show that people who expect 8-9, are really off...

If you´re a true U2 fan you´re going to buy the album on CD or legal download (which isn´t a good subsitute imo)Most U2 fans are 30-50 years old and we don´t download, we buy the real thing! I reckon after 4 straight smash singles and a massive tour over 2 years it´s gonna sell 15 million copies

Only one album has sold over 10 million in the last 3 years (Amy Winehouse on course for 11 million); Justin Timberlake's the only other person to hit 9 million. Makes me really doubt U2 have a chance of matching the Bomb's sales

Other than Coldplay sales have fallen quite a bit in the last year. Take a look at all of the albums from 07 that sold 4 or 5 million compared to this year.

It is really sad that there are albums in the top 20 that have not even reached 2 million WW sales in a year. A few years ago albums were reaching this number in a couple weeks in the US alone. (I think N Sync sold like 2.4 million in just a couple of days).

It looks a little better if you look at how many albums sold for non-2008 albums this year too, Amy Winehouse is over 4 million in that

Sales in the US may be down but they're still strong in the UK. Take That have sold a million in 3 weeks (2nd fastest ever)

The first single is really going to determine a lot. U2 has such a strong fan base that is in almost every country (some of which still have a decent economy) they are going to have strong world wide sales. If the first single is a big hit and U2 can come out of the gate strong I think the competition is so weak U2 will get most of the good press for their strong sales. This will help to increase sales even more and we could be looking at U2 with a huge #1 selling album world wide in 09 with nothing else even close.
