U218 year end sales

According to mediatraffic these are 1.413m, 36th on the best seller list. Of course actual sales figures will be higher as it hasn't been on this chart for a while

u218 from release: 4559075 copies sold (numbers from mediatraffic data + 7,5% of countries not calculated on mediatraffic + weeks not calculated on mediatraffic's top 40)

A question:

4559075 for you is good or is a flop?
Did you expected more than 4559075 for this compilation from the release?

It's a flop.
It's overkill. They should never have done this. worst mistake they could make.

I want new fresh songs!

Good sales for a 3rd best of, 1.4m sales from nothing.

If this had been U2's first ever Best Of collection, these figures would have been appalling. Considering, though, that they've already racked up over 20 million sales from the other two, then 4.5m for this one isn't too shabby. But I agree that it was completely unnecessary, and was probably a "stopgap" release, just so that it was only 2 years between albums instead of 4.

Actually, I think the "U218" was U2's way of fulfilling that "Best Of" contract they signed back in the 90's. That called for them to release 3 greatest hits type of albums. Now they have.

While the last one sold marginally, the first one sold brilliantly. So they certainly made $$ for their studio and themselves with these releases.

Not bad for a third compilation. It'll probably outsell the 90's one eventually.

It's the best selling greatest hits album (The Beatles' Love outsold it but that's not greatest hits) worldwide released since 2006, so how could you ever call it flop?

It's bound to become their biggest catalog seller, selling more units on a year to year basis than any U2 product that isn't new...right now, it's a pretty good companion for new fans since they good grab a copy of the new album and this and have a decent overview of the band's history.

Plus, unfortunately for U2, when the promotion of NLOTH is over, the singles chosen for the last compilation will still be the 16 most popular that they've ver had.
