ah they don't care. They stand to stage the highest grossing tour ever. They'll make a lot of money off that. What's a few more million album sales to them? Nothing compared to 100 sold out stadiums.

They do care, U2 want to be popular, U2 want to be relevant, U2 want hit singles. Not for money but because they want and need popularity. If the band can't sell albums any more they'd probably retire even if the tour was selling out

I think they've changed. If they cared so much about selling albums they wouldn't take 4 and a half years to release one. Also they would be doing way more publicity appearances at the moment given that the album could do with a boost.

4 years is ok, considering a year long tour also. however i think the resultant album should be better than nloth.
i agree with the public appearances, Bono is more interested in doing his own thing. the band should be putting some performances in or visiting radio / tv shows somewhere in the world.
and why isnt there a magnificent video. it is like they want this album to not sell. either that or theyve realised how bad album sales now are and have given up hope

I don´t know whether they care or not but certainly they should. How did U2 achieve their status as the greatest band on earth in the first place? By letting people know their music. If people do not buy their albums anymore and their songs are not played on the radio I can see that before long they will be lumped with the likes of the Rolling Stones as bands who are not relevant any longer. They still will be able to sell out stadiums across the board, much as the Stones do but it will be kind of sad when noone would care about their new stuff. I´m not saying this is happening right now, not in the least, but if the actual trend continues, I´m afraid that´s what will happen eventually.

I dont think U2 want to turn into the stones. even so if the next album could well be 4 years away by which time the guys are early 50's. and the next album after than another 4 years then mid 50's. by which time we'd have to assume they would be ready to retire anyway. i cant see them turning into the stones.

At this pace, it will take 8 more weeks for the album to hit 1 M in the US. I guess 1 M copies have already been shipped to stores so platinum certification should be imminent.

I really think these numbers indicate U2 is still huge. The album lacks a hit, thus far, and still it is the best-selling album of the year. Green Day, whose previous AI album sold millions of copies, will demonstrate that it is not just U2 struggling to sell copies when their latest is released in May.

the only time ive heard the greenday single is when i purposely went on youtube to listen. i dont think its picked up much airplay. its probably the usual to be expected of greenday. and AI contained huge catchy 'pop' songs.
