i know we're not allowed to post active links on the board, but would it be ok to post links to sites/blogs that contain links to commercially available material?

Is there any difference between a website that hosts porn and one that just links to porn? Not really.

well, i see a difference between posting a link on the board that will start a download of an "illegal" file immediately, and posting a link that will just take you to another website/blog. even if there is posted links to commercially available material on that other site, it is not illegal just to visit the place. thus interference should not run into trouble.

We differ in opinion. Many judges in the US , however, don't agree with you... and for now, I'm going to keep our policy on the safe side.

- are you saying that it is considered a crime in the u.s. to visit a blog, for instance, if it contains a link to c.a.m., even if you don't use that link?

That isn't what I'm saying.

If you'd like to learn more about US copyright law as well as what is legal to link to, and how, as well as related topics I'd suggest you do some research on your own, or speak with an attorney.

ok, but i would guess almost all sites on the internet could be considered illegal then. just follow the right chain of links, and you'll surely find a site hosting illegal content sooner or later.

another question now we're at it: how come sites such as atease.com and coldplaying.com don't get shut down, considering they let people post ANYTHING?

I'm not an attorney, nor am I policing every other site on the net. Neither are my job.

If you'd like to discuss coldplaying.com and atease.com, I'd suggest you contact the owner's of each site.

i was just curious.

i was wondering why some sites, like interference, have a very strict policy, while others don't care what is being posted on their sites at all (and nothing seems to happen to them).

i thought you might have an idea.

Plenty has happened to plenty of sites in regards to legal matters. Others, perhaps like those you mentioned, are taking on risk and liability. I'd rather not expose myself, the staff, or the site to those risks, so we have strict policies.
