Local Time: 12:30 PM | Edges simple chords So I just saw It Might Get Loud (FANTASTIC FILM!!!) and I was curious about a certain part... Edge talks about using simple basic chords to make his notes sound clearer...he used an E chord as an example...i'm very interested in this, can anyone elaborate? such as how he does play simple chords and so on... |

Local Time: 11:30 AM | I would assume he means two note chords, which AFAIK are improper. Proper chords are suppsed to have three notes. The major chord of E is E-B-and G# So on I Will Follow's main riff (at least how I've always played it), Edge plays an E but doesn't play that proper E chord. He plays a set of two note 'chords' up high first (E and B)-which is the E chord and then (E and A)-which is an A chord. To contrast, Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) often plays a "simple" two note E chord as well but plays (E and G#). So, that has to be my best guess. |

Local Time: 11:30 AM | Again, I am only assuming I am following what Edge is talking about. It has to be this, I would think. This is as simple of an example I could think of. This is what I mean by the "simple" E used in I Will Follow E--x B--12 (the B note) G--9 (the E note) D--x A--x E--x It's missing the note G# to make it a 'proper' E major chord. He's only playing an E and B note. (two note simple "chord") This would be a proper E major chord at that similar scale E--12 (the E note) B--12 (the B note) G--13 (the G# note) D--x A--x E--x Using this simple method, you could play any 'chord' (improperly) using the root note of the chord itself and one of the other two notes that comprise that chord. There are many different ways to explain this in more detail. This is the simplest I could think of. |

Local Time: 11:30 AM | That's actually just an E5, I believe. But yeah, I get what Edge means, sort of. It's all just E's and Bs'. Doesn't have the 3rd (G#) |
