I'm not sure what you mean by lead guitar and rhtyhm guitar. Basically it's just rhythm isn't it? At least the versions I've heard.

Perhaps Bono can teach you:

You're right!
Edge plays a solo, but I wasn't able to find other videos from the last tour to see whether or not he is playing it every time.

U2 with Bruce Springsteen in Philly

I don't think Edge plays the solo when they're performing it alone without a guest though.

^AMAZING SHOW^
lol that happens to be my first U2 concert ever
when bono said 'we need a guitarist' i began freaking out.

it looks like bruce starts doing a little soloing himself so when they normally take a guest up i dont think the guest does anything except those chords C Am F C
...i hope?

I guess the guest guitarist just plays the chords, which Edge did sometimes on the Elevation Tour as well perhaps to support the audience member brought up on stage or something I don't know.

But as I said, most versions I've heard are based only on someone playing the chords while the band plays along. Those solo things seem to be improvised mostly, at least that's what it sounds like to me.
