Bono and lipsynching?

after reading the thread "Ashlee Simpson and U2" on U2.com, i wanted to ask... does bono ever lip-synch vocals? i heard he does sometimes during the song "Elevation" for parts and "New York" on the last tour. ok, i understand that.. but i hope to god the entire shows arent being lip-synched by him... or that there's no Milli vanilli crap going on.

id also like to know for sure at least, that that's the real bono we hear on the records and so on... and not some other guy.
though, i guess there's proof it is him, since his singing voice sounds much like his speaking voice (like in interviews or whatever).
and his voice is pretty distinctive. so, who knows...

PLEASE don't scream at me for asking this...

He did lip sync the "Whoo Hoo's" in Elevation during the Elevation tour. That's the only lip-syncing i know of. I don't think he lip-syncs anything else during concerts since most of it sounds raw and too "unperfect" to be pre-recorded.

As for the albums: It is Bono singing. The fact that it sounds different/better has to do with the fact that you can do multiple takes/can give your voice more rest/have loads of voice-atlering/distorting/perfecting electronic equipment in studios.

Have no fear, Bono can and is singing. If you've seen them live and up close, there's no way to have Bono faking it as he talks so damn much and changes the lyrics in some way on almost every song lol. In just over the last 2 tours I've seen them 8 times and be rest assured its as real as it gets. I never heard anything about him lipsyncing on New York or Elevation..or ever for that matter. Might want to check your sources. As for the records, well, they speak for themselves.

yeah, and each vocal performance varies so much from show to show, they'd have to record a new vocal track for each show... which just doesn't make sense

Yes he definitely does lip synch the entire concert milli-vanilli style, while the others just mime from a recording.

Steve Lillywhite writes most of the lyrics, and Brian Eno's wheeled in to do the jangly bits

They're not even Irish you know!

I can't believe they've got away with it for thirty years!!!!

i also dont get it why he'd lip-synch the "whoo's"... it seems silly to me. i could see hard vocal sections to a song, or with some notes he just couldn't reach that night/tour for whatever reason... but a "whoo"? i know, the rumour made no sense to me either. not sure what lead everyone to saying this. ive been hearing this from people for the past year now... all over the place.

What's next greenslimer? Are you going to ask if he's an alien or not? You've already covered so many things on here...

to me, its not the end of the world if he started lip-synching... i just want to know that its actually the bono whos singing... on the albums... and thats his voice (if theyre using recorded backing vocals.. but of himself) and not some totally other guy.

has anyone heard him sing, privately.. or him singing like directly over them during a concert.. or while in the crowd surfing... or something? and did it sound like the album bono and not another person?

in 'rattle and hum' you can hear him do that rehearsal of sorts in their bus before doing that outdoor thing. that sounded like "him". and theres that "making of Electrical Storm" video... where he seems to be singing along overtop the album version (but not sure.) and i think there was a recording of him online singing "two shots of happy" on an airplane a while back? i cant find it.

I think its pretty obvious to anyone who's seen them live, listened to a boot, watched a concert video that he doesn't. But it should also be obvious that to get some of the layered, full sounds and arrangements for some of the songs, that technology will be involved to cover parts that the 4 guys on their own can't physically do because of a lack of hands and voices.

Bono does not lipsynch. And the "Elevation" who, hoos, are pre recorded but Bono still adds to them. I can't believe this thread even started.

Greenslimer, you have started alot of controversial threads...

But to answer your question ...He does not lip synch. I saw an interview where he sang a cappella and it was beautiful.
