Local Time: 03:50 AM | Mick Jagger fans are not to fond of Bono I just found this at the Mick Jagger board : **************************************************** boardGuest u2 is terrible -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- their completely blown out of proportion their 5 irish men with no talent getting fans by pretending to care about world issues. and i dont trust anyone whos front man never gets upset or shows any negative feelings its too scary and they cant play their instruments posted: 5/8/2002 14:36 Reply | Edit | IP poisonthewell registered: 3/30/2002 00:37 posts: 294 Ignoring the run on sentences for a moment... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During one performance, Bono stopped to yell at a trouble causing fan. The singers are the ones who get all the attention...and I think they're the weakest part of the band. (Anthony Kaidus, or however you spell his last name, sings off-key too often. But the band behind him sounds great.) Top | Reply | PM | Email | Edit | IP bono :: posted -> 12/20/2001 06:27 : by -> palladino bono is great, Mick is Mick where's the problem? I think the episode of the Simpsons with U2 in it was very closse to the truth. U2 saves the world, but try getting more than 3 words out of the other guys. And when are the Stones gonna be on a Simpsons episode? And why do they keep turning down the James Bond producers to do the title songs? I must admit I have always had a hard time getting behind a musician who has a hardcore political agenda. Can't we just talk about sex, drugs and rock & roll? Hey what is Bill Clinton up to lately? Bono cares. And if there is one sure fire way of opening yourself to all sorts of idiotic attacks, it is to care. Bono has the type of courage and strength that his detractors couldn't muster on their best day. He hangs his ass out the window to be whitewashed by all sorts of dimwitted, do-nothing cynical cranks in the name of a greater good. He's simply a good man -- isn't it appalling the kind of vitriol that elicits? And I think that's part of what attracts Mick to him. Mick has always hidden behind the masks, even changes his accent. He's glib where Bono is blatantly sincere, Mick doesn't bleed where folks can see him, Bono does. But if you are for real and intelligent and committed, and Mick is, you find you can only keep up that facade full time for just so long. And I think Mick is intrigued by how Bono has maintained himself over a twenty year period and taken the full brunt of stupid abuse he has endured and still refuses to shield himself. As for the music, Edge has played on Woody's solo album, Keef joined U2 onstage for the Smile Jamaica concert, and freely said how much he likes U2 in a Rolling Stone interview, now Bon is singing with Mick, they've been to one another's shows...as usual, the Stones know better than some of their fans. Top | Reply | PM | Edit | IP Bono's motivated by MONEY! :: posted -> 12/29/2001 16:34 : by -> Brad Yea, Bono really has changed the world! By the way where have all the human rights people been while the women in Arab countries have been tortured, abused and murdered? Were they at an anti-fur rally or something? His immense wealth which he has gained through a capitalistic world has allowed him the time to tout his causes when the common man has to work. Lets not confuse a rich, socially conscious, self promoting do gooder with Mother Teresa Top | Reply | PM | Edit | IP Where were YOU... :: posted -> 12/29/2001 18:32 : by -> SAJ while the people of Aghanistan were living under a totalitarian regime? The situation in Aghanistan was no secret before 9/11, and if it was to you, that's your fault. Pay attention. And don't start giving me all that crap about a capitalistic society, capitalism doesn't preclude morality any more than communism or socialism guarantees it. Bono is changing the world by doing what he can, which is the same deal for each and every one of us. The world changes one person at a time, and those with a mind and a heart do what they can, no matter how they have to scratch for a living. You're just jealous that Bono has money he's earned from doing what you probably wish you were doing. Again, not his fault. Instead of denigrating decent people to build yourself up, why don't you see where you can stand improvement, rather than spending your time illustrating to the world that Darwin was right. Top | Reply | PM | Edit | IP Exactly my point :: posted -> 12/29/2001 19:42 : by -> Brad Afghanistan has been no secret and in over 20 years Bono and his like have never thought to hold a concert or speak about it. In fact no one has! I wonder why? It is certainly more important than saving the whales or the fight against fur. Again you hit my point about capitalism, the man makes his living from it and fights against it, a typical democrat. Actually I wasn't denigrating Bono, just fools like you who worship at the alter of pop culture. And you my friend prove P.T. Barnum's theory. Now you better get back to your libaral arts class or do you have a demonstration to go too? I don't always agree with Bono about all of his 'causes' but I think he's very knowledgeable - especially about music. When he inducted Bruce Springsteen into the R&R HOF I thought it was one of the best speeches ever. I also love the Red Hot Chili Peppers who were mentioned here also - but I think Flea is the best musician of the bunch - a great bass player. Local Time: 10:50 PM | I think it's hilarious that the first poster thought there were 5 guys in U2. It's kind of hard to take someone like that seriously. Actually, it seemed like there were a fair number of Rolling Stones fans on that board standing up for U2, or at least trying to be fair in their assessment, like the person who said he/she doesn't like Bono's politics but respects him as a musician. Don't get upset about the others, there will always be blank-holes in the world. |

Local Time: 03:50 AM | I love some of the Stones' music, like "Gimme Shelter" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Also, Mick and Bono are good friends. In fact, Mick and Ketih Richards helped him with "Silver and Gold". I wonder if those people know that? But like I said I don't give a damn what some of these people think of Bono or U2. It's my damn business what I think of whoever. ![]() |
