Thanks everyone. It was without a doubt the best thing for Max...he was just completely worn out...and I'm glad I could spare him having to linger in pain/discomfort, but I'll miss him so much. All the other cats and even the dog are very quiet and subdued tonight -- they know things are different.

Some pics:

Max and Zeke. Zeke was a puppy and he was so proud of being able to finally get up on the couch and lay down with the cat. Max was thinking "if this damned puppy gets obnoxious I'm going to smack the snot out of him." (Max didn't put up with a lot of shit from puppies...he was the official puppy smacker)

A pic taken this past winter of Max lounging on some blankets and giving himself a bath. Definitely slowing down and losing weight then, but he was still happy and active. He stayed happy and active pretty much until just the last few days. I'm happy about that for him...he had a good life right up until the end.

And a picture of Ricky (full name: Rickenbacker Straticaticus ), because he's looking so silly in it I couldn't help but laugh.

Indra, does Ricky have little black spots on his lower "lip"? Our orange cat, Jack, does -- he had about 3 or 4, I was surprised when I first saw them!

You did the best thing for your kitteh Max, but I know it's hard.

I saw the discussion about 2 pages back? about cats doing odd things. Our black half siamese used to sit on my mums stomach when she was in the bath. Strange cat. If he ever fell in all hell broke loose though.

Zoey was all hyper when we let them out of the room this morning. A while later, she was running away from one of the other kittens in a frenzy, she jumped up and ran along the back of the couch, slipped when she got near me, and tore a chunk out of my shoulder. Bad kitty. It bled like crazy. And before that, she jumped and tried to climb up my leg (like they used to do when they were tiny) with her claws out.

But then a while later, she came to me for snuggles, so all is forgiven.

VP.

Bad Zoey. All it takes is a cuddle and you (almost) forget the pain. I hope it doesn't hurt too much.

It feels okay now. After the bleeding stopped, I put some antibiotic ointment on it, and this huge-ass bandage (because the scratch is deep long).

Today is definitely mani-pedi day for all the kittens.

Zoey is our problem child. The others are usually pretty calm, except for brief, isolated periods of hyperactivity. The vet warned us that torbis are wild.
