Making a habit of it isn't he? But what would I know, I'm just "attention-seeking" and "irrational" for hating God Part II according to our numerical friend.
That said, I am a big fan of One, and I don't think I'll ever undertand the knockers! Not one of my elite, but a 9 from me. A gorgeous song, if made a little frustrating due to the overexposure and overutility of the song. I can't deny my love for it though, and the studio version is one of Bono's most mindblowing vocals. High quality music.

Given that you are a U2 fan, there's no conceivable way you (and no, I'm not implying that you did) could rate this song a "0". Obviously, the four who did so have rendered useless this entire thread, by virtue of their pretending to viciously hate a song that has a delightfully addictive melody and is plainly heartfelt. By virtue of this alone, there is no way anyone could honestly award the song a "0".

For example, I mentioned before that I detest Bon Jovi. But even I would have a hard time rating one of their most popular songs a "0", because at least the song would logically have a good tune, a nice arrangement, or something else that strikes a chord with people. So it is with "One", except that all of you are supposedly U2 fans, and if so, it's embarrassingly stupid to rate this song a "0".
Irishteen has allowed for any song to be voted a "0". Other songs in this competition have been given such ratings. You see, you can do what you want in life. Surely you have something better to think about than something as useless and banal as complain about this? Or does it really fucking bother you that much that four people you'll never meet have rated a song you really like a 0 on an internet forum?

There's absolutely no need to bother any more with this subject.

i gave it a ten. i would like to know if those giving it zeroes and ones are legitimate, i know some of you are though.

took me a while to come around to this song, but i love bono's vocals, the melody, it is very moving, and the "Do you hear us coming, Lord?" live verse is just transcendent.

also, numbers, you're getting on everyone's nerves with your shit. you can't go around telling people their idiots if they truly rate the song down. the fact that you are claiming "you are U2 fan, and an utter disgrace if you rate one of the songs poorly" just sums it all up.

One gets a one (not being ironic) from me. It's not the worst U2 song ever, and I like the live Hear Us Coming verse, but I have no desire to ever hear this song again in any setting. Any song I never listen to automatically can score no higher than 2 by my rating scheme, and One is worse than the songs I've given 2. Hence this is an easy vote.

It's bland U2 by the numbers. No wonder our numerical friend is so superiorist about it.

Clearly, I didn't say this. I said that it's fine (duh!) not to like the song. One's opinion is one's opinion. Frankly, I couldn't care less whether someone likes this song or not. What I do care about is respecting Irishteen's thread.

Again, this is not what I said. There are plenty of U2 songs I don't like. What I was trying to say, is this: "One" is not an untypical U2 anthem, of the usual, soaring, guitar-anthem, heartfelt style at which they excel. It's also one of their most universally loved. For these reasons, I can't fathom how any self-identifying U2 fan could honestly ("honestly" being the key word) give this song a zero. It might be one (no pun intended) thing to give the song a three or a four, but to give the song a zero undermines this thread, I think.

I can understand how a U2 fan *might* give a song like "Mofo" or "Elvis Ate America" a zero, because they're such atypical songs outside of U2's strength and core areas. (Not to say I would argue with anyone giving them a ten.) But to give "One" a zero is simply for political reasons, say I. I equate this with the numbskull music fan whose rationale for hating U2 is "they suck", "Bono is a cunt!", etc. In other words, hating music for reasons that have nothing to do with music.

To summarize: I couldn't care less whether you like "One" or not, but I do think we should treat the thread with some objective analysis, not just "I've heard this song too much -- I'll give it a zero!"

Agree absolutely. it is over rated and it isn't U2's best song by a long way. but it's a solid fucking ten, no doubt.

8, it's a great song not their greatest but I can't deny how awesome that vocal is on the album

A classic track from a classic album, simply stunning. Having said that, my favorite version is live recording from the War Child concert in 1995 !
