360 stage not able to fit in Subiaco Oval, Perth

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Why? Isn't Perth open air?

What do the Austrailians have against olives?

The Perth gig was the only arena show of Popmart, held inside the Burswood Dome.

This show is at Subiaco Oval, a completely different venue and rather gigantic Aussie Rules stadium. I don't take any suggestion seriously that the stage has to be modified. If it has to be modified to fit in Subi, it wouldn't fit in ANYWHERE.

Wouldnt Jake Berry have been out to advance this stadium months before the actual show?

The documentary on the rosebowl DVD says jake(?) went to MANY of the venues they would LIKELY play on the 360 to inquire about weight/dimension of the staging. Perhaps they asked if they had a problem with a seated capacity plus 12,000 on the floor inside the building(parking, bathrooms, food, fire laws with entrances).

Some venues had to place the stage "sideways" than most concerts at the venue to better accomodate seating or the fact the stage wouldn't otherwise fit(Norman Ok?)

I'm mildly amused by some of the stories of minor and major modifications needed to cart this show around the world. One of which being that the crew couldn't speed up setup/strikedown as expected as the tour progess which is usual for touring crews. That and having to take out a wall in barcelona or having to pay $$ to alter the screen in Dallas. Wasn't there a transport issue between Dublin and Sweden regarding a missed ferry? Haven't they also had to $$ for trashed fields in one or two stadiums?

That said, the stage itself hasn't had any malfunctions during the shows themselves. Screen in Zurich or stuck "bridge" here and there.

Amsterdam also had a modified stage, the top of the spire was lowered as well due to the roof.

The Spire looks similar to other shows. I'm more surprice thatthe entire claw had to snugly under the enormous roof beam/support.

Actually the spire was a bit lower in the Claw than at the other shows I've been to. You can't really see it on pictures, but to everyone there it was obvious. It's a bit hard to explain, but usually the spire sticks at a certain distance into the claw, but in the ArenA it was... lower. Like there was more spire below the screen than usual, and less above. And the top Mirrorball was lowered as well. :)

Wasn't there a transport issue between Dublin and Sweden regarding a missed ferry?
Well, from what I remember that was due to the fact that residents near Croke Park physically stopped the trucks from leaving the stadium for a while until they were persuaded to move out of the way. So they missed one of the ferries, but I think at least a couple of those trucks were on the intended ferry.
Someone will have to back this up, I can't recall the exact details but I remember being freaked out at the headline "Swedish U2 show in jeopardy!"

That said, the stage itself hasn't had any malfunctions during the shows themselves. Screen in Zurich or stuck "bridge" here and there.
To add on to what you started, Helsinki notably had a 35 minute delay because of issues with the screen on the first night and I think there was a problem with the bridge on the second night - Bono said something about being stuck out on the catwalk before they launched into the only 2010 performance of No Line On The Horizon.

I went by Subiaco Oval(Patterson Stadium) today and it looks like most of claw is up. You can see the top of it from outside the stadium. I got told by a local that the shipping containers arrived on Monday.

Claw stands in WA

Yeh I was at Subi today and the claw is standing, the stage and screen will be erected tomorrow.
This whole thread was started by bull dung rumours!

Ha, ha, I missed this thread at the time. To summarise, and some people have already said this:

Popmart was in a tiny venue, an indoor tennis court with a stupid air pressure held-up cloth roof with god awful acoustics. The rumours were the toothpick was lost in South America.

Subi Oval is the massive-est footy oval in Australia. The plastic sheeting U2 used to cover the grass in footy ovals didn't make it all the way. There was a fair bit of grass exposed down the back, which some of the pissed bogans used to drink and sleep on. Unfortunately some of them also made their way closer to the front.

Um, yep. and heres a pic:

Speaking to some of the hard core U2 nerds who have been to many shows, usually there is not much room behind Red Zone and before the seats start but at Subi there was heaps of room.
