What's that song they came out to? / Intro Songs?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Sing yourself far down the street
Sing yourself right off your feet
Sing yourself away from victory and of defeat
Sing yourself with fife and drum
Sing yourself to overcome
the darkness of one's lost and someone else has won"

Same as someone posted earlier, but I reckon one word in the first line is different if you listen.

I think the last line is "the thought that someone's lost and someone else has won" and the first probably "on down the street"

Could be wrong, but I like it better that way. Especially the last line.

It's sort of a call to become less attached and simplistic, to stop thinking of everything in terms of winners and losers. This fits with "sing yourself away from victory and from defeat"

I spoke to Gavin a few hours ago. The intro song is all U2, he didn't write it, nor did he sing on it.

Are you serious here? You're talking about a song that if from U2, and if as good in its entirely as this part is, might be one of their best ever.
How did you spoke to him?

I spoke to Gavin in London during soundcheck at the Purcell Rooms at Queen Elizabeth Hall where he was playing on Saturday evening. I've known him 20 years.

I'm really sorry for showing doubt for what you said, it's just that those leak days made me go paranoid. :crack:
Thanks a LOT for giving us this info. :applaud: You rule! :up:

like i said in the SOA thread, it's interesting that the band has been very secretive about this song. is SOA closer than we think?

You may be right about the first line, but there is no doubt that the last line is "the thought that someon's lost and someone else has won"

^ given that it was uploaded by a fan, and is simply the audio rip that u2nativeson made of the EPK a week ago, I would say that the youtube video saying it is Gavin Friday is someone with old old news.

It is U2. We have confirmed it. End of story.

Guess the uploader of the video should probably take it down after the confirmation.

Na it's not mine:doh:...I didn't read the other posts correctly and thought someone was having a go at mine. My bad...Just proves I should read things more carefully!

Whatever that is, U2 or Gavin Friday or whatever, it sounds a shit ton like Coldplay. Specifically Viva La Vida Coldplay. And I'm not just trying to stir the pot here, I really do think that. If you played me the first minute and a half of that clip and said this is a song Coldplay recorded with Eno during the Viva La Vida sessions I wouldn't doubt you for a second. It sounds like maybe a bit of "Yes" mixed with parts of "Strawberry Swing" or "Life in Technicolor" or something. I really, really hope that is not a U2 song.
